Mark making and play time x

I can't believe how quickly December is flying by and how close we are to Christmas - it always sneaks up on me. I have been busy selling my art at fairs in Wellington and Auckland which has been a lot of fun but also exhausting! So yesterday I decided to have a bit of a rest and just create some textures and have a bit of play time. I love creating these marks and have a whole folder of them...each mark is different and unique and you never know what you will get…this time I thought I would photograph each one as a record for myself and I thought I would share them with you too! I will almost certainly use these at some point in my work even if I don't know what for at the moment!

I used gouache paint and water. This first pic is a scrunched up sheet of paper, with paint on which I just blotted all over the paper:

Half of an old lemon I found in the fridge!:

I love the sponge marks the best:

Opening up the scrunched up piece of paper to reveal some interesting marks and lines:

I wanted to use my textures right away and so here they are in this pattern from today; the half circle shapes contain the sponge texture and the apples contain the texture above. I love how textures and marks just add a little more depth to a design x x
