So the Lilla Rogers "Make Art that Sells" course has finished and I am so sad that it is over! It has been amazing learning about all of these different markets and getting stuck in to weekly assignments. I must try to keep it up now that it is over, but part B starts in October so I have that to look forward to!
This last assignment was my absolute favourite. We were asked to design a zip pouch based on things we collect. I was in heaven as I collect so many things. My biggest collection and passion is stationery - anything to do with it really; stickers, envelopes, pens, paper of all sorts, old letters, origami, tags, stamps.... Here are a few pics of my collections:

We then had to draw our items and photograph them to create a 'hyper-lush' zipper pouch! So the colours has to be incredibly bright and it had to be bursting with imagery. I added some of my flower photos from my photo library around the edge too. I had to include a little postman bird in there (you can never have enough birds!). And here is my submission:
I am so pleased with how it came out. Week 4 wasn't so great though, I was away at the weekend at the Auckland Art and Craft Fair so only had a couple of days to work on the wall art assignment. Lilla asked us to choose a colour palette which she came up with based on our star signs. I am a pisces so got pink and purple - and was horrified!!! But we could choose tones and tints of those colours and use as many neutrals as we liked so it wasn't so bad in the end. We had to design a piece of abstract wall art and it had to include geometric shapes and writing of some sort. So it was back to the paints and collage, no computers this week for me! It was a wonderful change. Here is my submission, although there are many things I would change with it starting with the writing and the flower shapes...my favourite part is the cut out positive/negative fan shapes. This assignment made me want to collage EVERYTHING!! I used to do it all the time at university but had sort of let it slip...but I will be revisiting this technique again for my work I'm sure!
