Craft Workshop in Tokyo

My last evening in Tokyo was spent with Bonnie at a craft workshop in an amazing stationery/craft store called Wrapple (a cross between "wrap" and "apple" - so Japanese!!) in Shibuya.  We made a "Fukubukuro" - a "lucky bag" which you can gift to someone which can contain a variety of unknown things hence the "lucky" part because you never know what you will get inside. The two girls who taught the class were textile students in Tokyo and they were so cute, really Tokyo cute. We played with lots of fun stickers, washi tapes, plastic sea creatures, more washi tapes and more stickers. I hope you enjoy the photos x x

This was my finished bag. We all made the same one but had different ways of decorating them. It was really fun to see what the others did too!

We started by rubbing candle wax on both sides of a brown paper bag and then ironing the bag (sandwiched between baking paper so as not to ruin the iron) to melt the wax and give the bag a see through rustic look. Can you see how mine looks a bit crumply in the first photo? This method can work for any brown bags - give it a go!

And then we decorated the bags as we liked, using all of the washi tapes etc provided by the amazing stationery shop! We each got given a paper cut out (in gold - fab!) of the "Fukubukuro" kanji characters to stick on to the front of the bag to decorate too.

Hurrah! We finished! I hope mine doesn't get too squashed on my journey home to NZ...x x
